Activity Centres Buying Guide

Entertaining your baby is key to peace and quiet. We all love the times when baby is smiling and giggling for us, and I'm sure we can agree that the times of tears are not so enjoyable. Baby product manufacturers have been creating products just to keep your baby entertained for long periods of time. However, even those cute little songs, lights and rattles can get annoying after awhile. This is why it is important to consider certain things about the activity centre before making a purchase.

Things to Consider

We all want to make our lives easier when children come into the picture. We want to maximize our sleep, minimize our stress, and still get all those little errands done during the day. It is hard, but getting the right activity centre can make a few hours of your day slightly more enjoyable.

Here are things you need to know about an activity centre before buying one:

  • Age: Your baby's age is an important consideration when purchasing any toy. Buying a walker for a newborn may not be very useful for sometime.
  • Activity: If your baby is mobile and very active, you may want to consider a playard instead of a swing or a walker.  It may be more fun.
  • Attachments: All of the play stations, walkers and gyms come with attachments and small toys. Think of what you want your baby to learn, and see what each attachment does.
  • Noises: Some attachments make noises. To save your sanity, try to look for attachments which have volume control options.
  • Size: You should also consider how much space you have in your home. Some activity centres are much bigger than others, and are collapsible so you can transport them easily.

Activity Centres

Playards can come in different sizes and weights and can be designed for indoor or outdoor spaces. They are a safe place for baby to nap or play in without too much supervision.

Swings are very relaxing for babies, and are designed as wind ups or can be battery powered. The slow rocking motion helps baby sleep.

Walkers, although sometimes dangerous, can be fun for baby to play in. It is better for baby's development if they are only used once in awhile.

Baby Gyms and Play Mats are perfect for teaching baby how to roll over and sit up on his or her own. As eye site improves, your child want to reach for the many toys hanging above.
